Kroondomein Giethoorn

Michael made check-in easy and was great about answering all our questions. He also gave us dinner recommendations and helped with the boat check out. The place was clean, the price was great, and the location was lovely. We highly recommend this local.

We stayed at the Chalet for two nights. The room was very clean when we arrived, and the view was fantastic. The houses sit along a canal, with ducks around, and it was lovely to drink coffee peacefully on the lawn in the morning. There were several things I wasn’t happy with. We had to take our garbage bags from the room and leave them at reception when we checked out. I’ve never had to do that in a rental room before and didn’t like it. The office instructions also clearly say they’ll keep part of the refundable deposit if you don’t leave the room clean. For a room that isn’t cheap, I think cleaning should be included. They didn’t clean our room at all during the two days either. There’s a long white shelf right above the bed, and I hit my head on it several times while sleeping. It was annoying, and you can’t lean back against the bed because of the shelf. One thing we hadn’t realized about the village is that there’s no nightlife. There wasn’t even a place to have a beer, which disappointed us. We went back to our rooms at 8:30 pm one night and 7:30 pm the next.

We had a very early train back to Amsterdam, and learned too late that taxis are scarce in the early morning and need to be booked ahead. The owner kindly drove us to the station in his own car. He was so warm and friendly, and we’re very grateful for his generosity. Getting to Giethoorn had been a long journey after a 14-hour flight. We arrived in Amsterdam around 4:30 am, then continued straight there by train and bus, reaching the hotel earlier than expected. We’d planned to leave our luggage and explore until check-in, but our room was already available and the host let us in early. It made such a difference to be able to freshen up and enjoy the village without our bags. I loved the quiet location inside the village, right by the lake and a little away from the busy main tourist street. We stayed at Chalet park Kroondomein Giethoorn for one night, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy the village’s beauty and calm. Wishing the hotel all the best, and I hope more people get to experience it.
