Jersey Goes Boutique Hotel

We stayed one night on Christmas Eve, our first visit. The room and bed were good, and the staff were friendly. The hotel looked lovely with all the Christmas lights and decorations. Breakfast was okay, but not excellent.

Our stay was uncomfortable, and the room mix-up was a serious privacy and safety concern. We'd completed check-in ahead of time, but on arrival the receptionist gave us keys to a room that was already occupied, with someone else's belongings inside. We shut the door straight away, shocked. The staff seemed unprepared. After some confusion, they found the guests who'd been assigned our room by mistake and moved us into theirs. It was smaller than the room we'd booked and close to loud ventilation. The property seems to operate mainly as a restaurant, with just a few rooms on the side. To reach the rooms you have to go through the back of the kitchen, a cold, noisy area full of food storage equipment. It didn't feel welcoming or professional for overnight guests. Quite disappointing.

We came for dinner, and the cocktails were vile. The pornstar martini tasted like canned peach water, with no fizz in the so-called prosecco shot. And just in case, a pornstar martini isn't supposed to taste of peach. We waited 15 minutes for anyone to take our order, then two people were told there were no mussels. Fifteen minutes into ordering in a coastal town, really? My mushroom risotto showed no sign of mushrooms, just maybe Maggi or Knorr mushroom soup flavor, alongside a rather dry piece of salmon. The Thai prawn curry with jasmine rice wasn't jasmine rice, and the salty, stodgy curry tasted like it might have come from a packet. Milk to thin it out might have made the three prawns more edible. The ribs were extremely oversalted, and one bucket of fries had bits of salmon skin at the bottom. If you want a decent meal, skip this place and go to KFC. I can't stand KFC.

I booked a room at Jersey Boutique Hotel, then had to cancel just 20 minutes later because something unexpected changed. The next day, after I gave my card details, a staff member explicitly promised a refund. Later the hotel denied that a refund had ever been discussed. Even with proof of payment, they first said there was no record of the transaction and initially claimed not to know the staff member involved. After repeated follow-ups, they acknowledged what happened but still refused the refund, contradicting what their own staff member had told me. I found the handling dishonest, dismissive, and unprofessional. A quick online search suggests other guests have had similar problems. If honesty, fair treatment, and good service matter to you, stay elsewhere. I've had to take this to my bank and plan to seek help from consumer protection authorities in the Netherlands. That says plenty about how this hotel treats its customers.
