De Veldhof

We had such a good week at the Veldhof that we’re already planning to book again next year. This was our second visit, and Studio Gerardus was clean, fairly comfortable, and had all the conveniences we needed. The beds were good, and even with the church just behind us, its bells didn’t disturb our sleep. The kitchen was perfectly adequate for cooking, though we went out to one of the village’s many places to eat every evening. The charming courtyard gives the place a really cozy feel. We’d read some sour comments, including complaints about wheels under the beds, but that didn’t change our experience. We’d happily stay here again.

The terrace by the lawn near the church is a lovely spot, but the church clock chimed every half hour, even at night. Noise from the busy road beside the farm was also a nuisance. The bins under the entrance smelled unpleasant on the way from the courtyard to our front door, and some cottages have their door in that same entrance area. Inside, the house was clean and simply furnished. The fridge had no freezer compartment, and the wooden dining chairs were rock hard. The sofa was fine, but the extra wooden chair was very uncomfortable. In a cottage for five, there were only three seats in the living area. The beds weren’t good either. They had wheels, so you’d roll away when turning over. We won’t be back. Still, if noise and beds aren’t major concerns for you, it’s an okay place to stay.

Gulpen makes a handy base for walking and cycling, with two supermarkets, two bakeries, and lots of restaurants and bars for snacks or drinks. The bus station is close by, too. We’ve stayed in several of the houses at De Veldhof, and this is now our sixth visit. The beds are wonderful, everything you need is in the cottage, and the garden and courtyard are lovely places to unwind. We’ll definitely return, hopefully next spring.

We keep coming back to Holiday Home de Veldhof, and it’s a joy every time. The cottages are tidy, well cared for, and super clean, in a lovely setting. There are good restaurants nearby, and the owners are friendly and easy to reach. It’s a great starting point for cycling or walking. We’ll be back again!
