The lounge at reception is a comfortable place to sit, with a library and a kicker football game for children. In the evening, you can take drinks from the fridge and pay the next day, and the local Gulpener beer was very tasty. There's a lift to every floor as well. We were greeted warmly, and the receptionist, on her first day, did a great job checking us in, answering questions, and explaining things. Breakfast was excellent, with two staff members keeping everything stocked and clearing and cleaning the tables quickly. I can't understand the complaints about it. The hotel is a short, pleasant walk from a large free and safe car park. I'd suggest pulling up in front first, where there is space for two cars, to unload before parking. The staff were very friendly, and we'll return.

The village is idyllic, with several routes for long walks in nature. We stayed one night at the end of June and were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Our room was clean, modern and nice, with all the basics we needed, and breakfast had lots of good choices. Truly remarkable. We'll definitely come back.

The breakfast-to-go was fresh and generous, which was a real plus. A vegetarian or vegan version would make it better. The hotel is old and sturdy, in central Gulpen behind the main square, with tourist information all around; it now has new owners. Our small room was indeed small, with old-fashioned furniture and a few IKEA additions. It was extremely hot the night we stayed, so being able to open the windows helped. They provided a fan and plan to add air conditioning, at least on the top floor. The bathroom was plain and small, though the shower worked well. I needed the first aid kit because of bad blisters, but the receptionist wouldn't give it to me and didn't try to understand the problem. Luckily, we bought what we needed just before the Gulpen shops closed at 1800.

With just over a week before our visit during the busiest time, for the Andre Rieu concert, the hotel cancelled our booking. I'd made it a few months earlier, and they said they were overbooked. Really inconvenient and unprofessional.

The city is pretty and the hotel is charming to look at, but I wouldn't recommend staying here if you need to sleep. My family was awake all night. I travel often and this was one of my worst hotel stays, since the noise kept me up until 5 AM. Our room had no AC and was too warm to sleep with the window shut. The old windows barely blocked any sound, though, so closing them didn't help. A bar right outside the hotel was the source. It closed around 3 AM, but people kept singing, shouting and partying under our window until 4:30 AM. There is no night receptionist, just a phone service. When I called for help, they told me to contact the Dutch police myself and said, “It’s Friday, people party.” In the morning, the receptionist was kind and helpful. He offered breakfast and said the manager would call later that day. We waited three days and heard nothing. We then followed up by phone and email, and eventually got an email offering a 25% refund. The manager issued it without checking with us or discussing it further, which felt dismissive. I had seen reviews mentioning this as a known problem, but thought people were overcomplaining because I can usually sleep. The hotel's own staff mentioned that it happens often and said they need to address it with the municipality. They should also improve the soundproofing on the windows and leave earplugs in the rooms. The only thing that helped was the receptionist working that morning. His kindness doesn't change how disappointing the manager's lack of contact, willingness to listen or negotiate, and response after our stay were. I hope the hotel takes this as constructive feedback and gives future guests the restful night they deserve. Thanks for the prompt reply. I respectfully want to say that using someone's first name publicly without consent doesn't feel right, even though the name wasn't mine. This review reflects our honest experience.
