You can walk to both the village and the beach, and there’s a bus stop right by the hotel. It’s quiet, tidy, though a bit dated, and dogs are welcome. There’s a swimming pool, and bikes can be rented through the hotel, just without a basket for your dog. Breakfast and dinner are served on time. The elevator sensor is broken, and they even say, “Dog first, then us.”

The room was large, and both it and the hotel were clean. The staff were really friendly, and you can book a private sauna for 10 euros an hour. It’s a lovely spot near the lighthouse and Hollumerbos forest. We heard the hotel is due to be completely demolished and rebuilt in two years. Breakfast was fine, though the orange juice was delicious on day one and almost like water for the remaining four days. We ate dinner at the hotel once, and it was a bad experience: a piece of meat or fish with very little half-cooked, half-raw vegetables and potatoes. Staff said this was Fletcher’s policy and offered extra vegetables and fries. To our dismay, those later appeared on the bill for 7 euros. You can eat much better and cheaper in the village. I’d highly recommend staying here if you have dinner in the village instead.

There’s plenty of room in these nicely furnished apartments, with another floor for the bedrooms, including one with a TV. The TV signal is weak, but the picture is still perfectly watchable. They’re near a path down to the sea, and a short walk is no problem.

We booked a high tea for two at Fletcher Hotel De Amelander Kaap through the Friends Lottery at an attractive price, and were looking forward to it. The high tea itself was quite tasty, but the experience could have been much more pleasant and thoughtfully presented. We were seated at a table with a runner, two tea glasses and cutlery. Straight away came a rather uninviting work-style thermos of hot water and a big box of Lipton tea bags. The meeting could begin. 😆 A cozy teapot and proper teacups would have been much nicer. One glass seemed to have been used already, with tea still floating in it, but they replaced it with a clean one. It was warm inside, the lobby was empty, and there was a constant pungent chlorine smell, probably from the indoor pool. Apart from a little mini cookie, things started out sparse. After fifteen minutes, the somewhat chaotic waiter announced in English that tomato soup was coming soon. Tomato soup? We thought we must have misheard, but sure enough, we got a platter with hot tomato soup, two baguette slices and two mini quiche rounds. I’d have started a high tea with sweet things and finished with savory, but that’s not how it went here. The tiered tray came after the hot savory snack. It held two small sweet muffins, a macaroon, a whipped cream truffle, a little mousse, a small apricot and peach mousse cake, and two substantial savory vegetable wraps. The service felt a bit chaotic and disinterested. It was odd that nobody checked whether we were enjoying things or had enough hot water for tea. There were no napkins or plates, just the tea glass saucers, and only one sugar stick per person for unlimited tea. We don’t take sugar, but still, those details matter. We would have liked to choose our own seats, perhaps out on the sunny terrace. This was the fastest high tea ever, over within an hour. After three cups of tea we were craving something stronger. 🍷🍷 I’ve had high teas before that were a real treat, but this one didn’t feel like that, so I can’t give it a very high score.

The room was beautifully clean, and the beds were comfortable. Really good food and drinks, with friendly service too. Great hotel, highly recommended.
