Appartement Plek in Holten

The house itself is very well equipped: salt, pepper, oil, tea, soap, shampoo and dishwashing liquid are provided, along with plenty of clean towels, tea towels and dishcloths. There's a large luxury shower, though its sealant and grout could do with a thorough clean. We didn't try the sauna, but it would be a nice extra for a winter visit. There's no garden, but a bench and table right outside meant we could have breakfast in the sun, like sitting on a restaurant terrace. We were impressed by how helpful the owners were. They live on the other side of the property and came over as soon as they could when we had an issue. A loose toilet roll holder and a creaking bed, caused by a broken plank, were both fixed that same day. Fruit and mini tarts were waiting when we arrived. The whole house is decorated in a cosy pink theme, right down to the fridge, which we thought was very cool. There are TVs in all the bedrooms as well as the living room. I'd personally prefer just one in the living room, but a bigger one from a better brand. The one there was very small, with hollow-sounding audio that had to be turned up loud to make out what was being said. We booked in a hurry for a weekend away because most affordable and nice places were already taken, assuming everything in the Netherlands was reachable by car. We didn't need to worry about that. Holten isn't a dull little village at all, and we spent almost the whole weekend there. We only popped over to Rijssen briefly on Friday afternoon, and found it a bit disappointing. Holten has plenty to do, and this accommodation is very well placed, with practically everything within walking distance. We arrived on a weekend with several events going on. Saturday was the annual harvest day, which was a bit of a letdown. There was live music in the evening, clearly audible from the accommodation. We enjoyed playing games with it in the background, though the noise is also a downside. We were woken by neighbours renovating, could hear the neighbours coughing through the wall, and could clearly hear cars passing right by the door. There are lots of nice restaurants within walking distance, and Da Vinci is highly recommended. We also did an escape room and rented a Tuk-tuk to visit the Canadian cemetery and the Holterberg. Grocery stores, Hema, and Kruidvat are just around the corner, and there's a small Friday market that's nice to stroll around. The owners are very friendly, and the location and accommodation are highly recommended. My boyfriend doesn't like going to the same place twice, otherwise I'd recommend it again! For reference, my ratings mean: 1 is terrible, I advise against it and won't return. 2 is disappointing and below expectations, so I won't come again. 3 is okay, nothing wrong with it, but nothing special, good for one visit. 4 is fine and worth returning for. 5 is excellent, I recommend it and will definitely be back.
