We really enjoyed the restaurant downstairs, and the library room looked lovely set up for a private party. Our attic room had a cute balcony over the city, a beautiful bathroom, and some great antique furniture. These are two of the top rooms, and the whole place is a well-kept 1907 hotel with real charm. The staff were very friendly and gave us useful tips for the Old Velsen area we were visiting. We could rent bikes right at the hotel, too.

The breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from and was really tasty. I was also impressed by how helpful the receptionist was, even though I arrived at 9pm. My room was huge, with a very high ceiling, a big bed, a living area with a massive couch, and a large TV. The bathroom was spacious as well. The hotel has kept its original style and decor from when it was built about a century ago, and the inside feels fresh despite the old walls. A very nice surprise, and I’d come back when I get the chance.

Dinner was great, and breakfast had everything I needed to get the day going. The rooms have individual character, with old but functional furniture, and the whole building has a lot of charm despite its age. Staff were attentive and very friendly. It’s central in IJmuiden, fairly close to the sea, and handy for getting onto the motorway toward Haarlem or Amsterdam. Just watch the steep staircase. My main complaint was the mattress, which was much too soft. Prices seemed reasonable, though not cheap. A good place to experience a charming Dutch atmosphere.

Our room was really cute and had handy comforts, including a little fridge and a fan the hotel provided during the hot summer weather. We had an excursion starting at 6:30AM, so breakfast, which only begins at 8AM, was too late for us. The hotel offered picnic bags instead, one for each person, ready to collect from a cooler by the door. That worked out pretty well!

I spent about a month here on business, and the friendly, helpful staff kept the service steady throughout. The location worked well for me, between the small town, the DFDS Ijmuiden office, and the ferry terminal. The bus stop is a two-minute walk away, with connections toward Haarlem or Beverwijk for trains. Ijmuiden Beach is about 15 minutes by bike, and Kennemerland National Park around 30 minutes. You can rent regular bikes and Ebikes here. The hotel has a warm, cosy feel, with antique furniture and decorations throughout, while still having modern conveniences. My room was very spacious and clean, with a bathtub and heater, which made it comfortable after a long day. The 1930s design mixes vintage style with practical modern features. Breakfast each morning was delicious and varied. I also tried all the dishes at the French-style restaurant, and the flavors were excellent. Portions are on the small side, so for the full French dining experience I’d get a starter, main, and dessert. The price felt reasonable for what you get, and I’ll definitely return.
