We never got to check in, so I can’t comment on the rooms or breakfast. We’d booked two nights to spend New Year’s Eve with our two dogs, hoping for somewhere quiet and away from fireworks. Since I’d seen a review about a late check-in problem on 31 December, I called around noon. They said they’d be there until 17:00, but we could come later and they’d send a self-check-in code. When we arrived at 19:00, reception was dark and locked, as expected, but there was no code by email or text. Another guest had received one and checked in late; she gave us a hotel phone number for emergencies. We called and texted several times with no answer. After about half an hour of trying to figure it out, we drove home. With two dogs on New Year’s Eve, finding somewhere else didn’t seem feasible, and home was fortunately only 2.5 hours away. Since then, we haven’t heard from the hotel at all, or received an apology or explanation through any of the channels we tried.

Although my reservation had been confirmed for over a month, reception was shut by 20:00. Nobody answered the phone, so I had to find a different hotel.

I arrived with a confirmed booking to find the hotel completely shut, with no staff, no other guests, and no way to check in. Nobody answered the phone, so I had to find another hotel at the last minute. Extremely disappointing. A place shouldn’t take bookings when it isn’t operating. Avoid it unless you’re prepared for stress and wasted time.

The room was spacious, had everything I needed, and the bed was large and soft. The lobby was clean and lovely too. My window had been left open and the heating wasn’t on, so the room was terribly cold. I couldn’t see any heating in the bathroom either, which made a morning shower unpleasant. Breakfast starts at 8, but when I got to the restaurant door at 7:55, they wouldn’t let us in. We had to wait outside in the cold until eight. I understand the opening time, but leaving us out there felt unfriendly.

We came for the five-course dinner, and the food was great, but the waits between dishes were too long. There was more than an hour between the main course and the dish before it. People were allowed to smoke right beside the door, so we had to smell it while eating for more than half the evening. The location is great, but I won't be back.
