The room had a wonderful view over the canal. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again when I return to Leiden.

The 'Roald Dahl' room looked out over the canal toward the Town Hall. After the overnight rain, the old city sparkled each morning, and the weather was kind to us. We ate both in our apartment and at local restaurants. At Scarlatti's, we had fabulous hosts and very attentive service. We had a small hiccup with the 'electronic key' at first, but the host sorted it out quickly and was great. The 1hr boat trip with Rondvaart was thoroughly enjoyable, and we recommend them. We also liked the nearby Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, with its medicine and science exhibits, and Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, which covers antiquities. It’s a fabulous self-check-in hotel in a central location for exploring this lovely city.

The air conditioning and location were both great, and our room was large, though basic. The rate felt too high. The staircase is very narrow and steep, and the app for opening the door needs a better explanation. One thing to know: there’s nowhere nearby for an early breakfast on Sunday.

The beds were great, the rooms were nice, and the location couldn’t be better for visiting Leiden. I’d still recommend staying here for a trip to the city, but keep in mind there’s no elevator and the staircase is very narrow. I gave it only two stars because of the cleaning. We arrived on time, but the room was still being cleaned, with trash and clothes from previous guests left behind. I complained and was told it would be taken care of. It wasn’t. They gave the room a quick sweep, but the trash and gum under the table were still there. I sent a picture of it.
