Van der Valk Hotel Leusden - Amersfoort

For the price, this is a very good hotel. The front desk staff speak fluent English, and the linens were changed every day. I liked the strong, creamy coffee in the room, and the staff were very helpful when I needed to rent an electric bicycle. A couple of things could be better: it would help to explain how the heating and air conditioning work, and tissues in the room would be nice. CNN was the only English-language channel; the other recommended channels were in Dutch, and there weren’t any specialty channels.

Sanne H. made our restaurant experience stand out. She was warm and friendly, and paid close attention without hovering. Whenever we needed her, she was there, while still giving us space. Her service felt both professional and genuinely engaged. I really appreciate the care she put into it, and she deserves special recognition.

For business stays, this hotel works really well. The rooms, restaurant, parking, and service were all very good. It also costs much less than other hotels in the same chain that are nearer to the big cities.

We were there for four nights and held several client meetings at the hotel. The decor is lovely, the reception team helped when we needed water bottles replenished or a hairdryer replaced, and both the bitterballen and breakfast were genuinely delicious. The gym situation caught us by surprise. We thought it was on site, but only found out when we arrived that it’s across the street, and you need to leave a card or ID to get access. That hadn’t been explained beforehand. The bigger issue was service in the bar and restaurant. Although staff were polite and friendly, attention was consistently below what we expected from a four star hotel. On several visits, we had to ask more than once for menus, chase food and drinks, and get tables cleared. Sometimes nobody came to our table for over 30 minutes, so we had to get up and ask for service. We also saw other guests do this when trying to pay their bills, and some drink orders were forgotten. The atmosphere and food give the hotel a lot of potential, but the bar and restaurant need better attentiveness and table management training.
