Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Marknesse

The setting is great, but our meal service was all over the place. We waited an hour and a half for salad and sandwiches, had to ask for cutlery, and one dish had never been written down. They brought water without glasses, too. It had a real "you had one job" feel to it. A bit more attention to service could make the place a gem. Hopefully they sort it out.

Dinner was very good, and the staff were friendly. The rooms and hotel are a high standard, though I missed having a fridge in my room. Breakfast wasn't bad, but after two weeks I was tired of the same three kinds of sausage and cheese. Starting at seven is also late for many people heading to work; half an hour earlier would help.

The forest setting was nice, and the rooms were clean. Still, our lunch wine took 45 minutes to arrive, and by the time we came for dinner at 9 pm, the kitchen was closed. The sink in the room really spoiled the feel of it. It felt more like a dressed-up hostel, with one towel per person and extras such as shampoo for sale. I don't think the four-star listing is accurate.

The staff were helpful, the meals were wonderful, and the atmosphere was lovely. We had a spacious room, too. It's a great hotel in a lovely spot near Marknesse, easily worth 10+.
