I like this kind of old-fashioned hotel, and this one feels the way I remember them. The room was basic, clean, comfortable, and warm, even during our November off-season stay. There was secure parking for one motorbike, and the owner let me use their garage, which saved me from unloading the bike. The food was well cooked, plentiful, and good value. The bar was well stocked, and the staff were friendly. I'll be back for a longer stay before long.

Think carefully before booking. My room was booked from Monday to Friday, but I didn't sleep at the hotel on Wednesday. When I came back around 2 a.m. on Thursday, every hotel door was locked, so I had to sleep in my car. I got inside at 6 a.m., and my things were no longer in the room. I got them back, but I still don't know how that happened. The hostess wasn't pleasant, and talking it through felt like a waste of time. The food was great, though the dishes looked different each time. Was there a new cook every day? It's your choice, so think about it.

Rooms are basic but clean, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast is good too. It's a good place to rest if you're in the area. There's a nice lake within walking distance, with a small beach where you can swim in summer. There are bike trails nearby, as you find across much of The Nederlands.

There were a lot of flies in the room. The owner tried to blame us, saying we'd left the window open and caused it, even though we hadn't used the room before arriving that evening. The bathroom was dirty, and the shower pipework was rusty.

A nightmare. Dirty showers with mold, walls covered in dead mosquitoes, and mosquitoes flying all around the rooms. I was seriously thinking about sleeping in the car. Slaap lekker!
