Hotel de Baak Seaside

The hotel is brilliantly placed for direct beach access, and downtown with its restaurants and activities is a short walk away. I’d recommend it, as long as you don’t expect to spend much time in the hotel itself. The standard double room is small, and the bathroom is tiny. The shower sends water pretty much everywhere. Breakfast is good if you like cheese, but otherwise very basic. Lots of tasty bread options, hardly anything to put on them, plenty of scrambled eggs but no bacon, and a very sour orange. Parking is cramped and often full, while public parking can also be very limited.

The rooms were clean and modern, and the service was good. A very nice hotel with a great view.

The view is lovely, but staff weren’t very attentive to what guests needed, and it was often noisy. Every day we had to ask for enough towels for two. We were fine with reusing them, but the used towels were taken away without replacements. The same happened with toilet paper. Parking and moving luggage in and out were difficult and inconvenient. Breakfast after Monday was a poor selection unless you’re happy with fish, cheese, and bread. It might suit a local coming away for a weekend.

I’ve never had hotel staff behave like that. Three of us were having a beer and chatting in a room one evening when a staff member knocked aggressively. In broken English, he said only, “Two people to a room, if you don't understand, you check out”. Completely inappropriate. I also slept terribly. Some rooms get too bright at night, and the corridor was very noisy in the morning.
