Zorn Hotel Duinlust

The hotel is in a shabby state and needs a complete renovation. The rooms are old and poorly maintained, with no thermal or sound insulation. Service is bare minimum, and the man at reception could only speak Dutch. There’s no breakfast service either. They leave you a “goodie bag” with breakfast food.

We came with a touring group from a music school, and the staff were caring and kind. They let us use all the facilities and even hold a rehearsal on our first night. Breakfast was continental, with a wide selection of good quality. There was plenty of food at dinner, though it was fairly mediocre. The rooms were cleaned every day and had comfortable beds and fantastic showers. The hotel is a five-minute walk from the beach, in a safe, easygoing neighborhood.

The owner made a nice breakfast by hand. The beds were comfortable, the pillows decent, and the price was reasonable for the season. It’s a basic hotel with what you need for an overnight stay, run by a family and set on a fairly quiet road, about a 15-minute walk from the beach. We stayed in spring, a popular time for people visiting Lisse or Keukenhof, which is a 15-minute drive away. One issue was the room heater: it’s noisy, starts heating when you open it, then switches off at night and comes on again at 5am. I’d recommend the hotel for a big group.

I liked how many plants there were around the hotel, and the breakfast was great. The staff were very friendly too. We had a nice stay. The rooms were okay, though not very large, and a few small things were broken or didn’t work quite right.
