The castle is gorgeous, so bring a camera. I was really surprised by how much medieval art there was to see. There’s also an audio guide for children aged 8 and up, with little tasks, plus a café in the courtyard.

The tower tour is included in the admission, and the climb up those narrow stairs is worth it for the experience. We came across this place by chance and were glad we did. It’s a lovely bit of history, shaped by one man’s vision and his collection of medieval art and artefacts.

The garden is beautiful, too. Inside the old castle there’s an exhibition of medieval art, and you can join a free tower tour. The views are very nice, and the tour also takes you to the weapons room.

It’s closed for renovations right now, but we’ll come back when it reopens in 2026. The location is nice, and there’s a good restaurant next to the castle with dishes presented nicely.

The Van Heek family gathered a fantastic collection here, and the castle sits in beautiful surroundings near the Dutch/German border. It’s a stunning place to visit. If you’re into old buildings, history, paintings, and antiques, add the castle to your list.
