Summio Havenresort Terherne

The setting right on the water is lovely, but the house didn't feel as luxurious as I'd expected. The surroundings make up for that. I'd give service one star, since there are no staff or supermarket on site. From November through spring the restaurants are closed, and there's no bakery. Joure is where you can do your grocery shopping. Akkrum couldn't be reached by car from Terherne until the end of March 2026. For lunch or a drink, try restaurant Salt just outside Terherne.

There are lots of restaurants along this waterfront area, and the cottages look out over the old harbor. Ours was dusty and smelled musty when we arrived, but luckily there was a vacuum cleaner.

The small harbor view is lovely, and the location works well as a starting point. The cottages themselves need a serious update. The living room and kitchen are made with OSB board, and the cramped bathroom has a weak shower with no thermostatic valve. The bedroom faces the harbor but has very little ventilation. Leaving the door open isn't great on the ground floor, and without a fly screen the mosquitoes have a field day. The kitchen is spacious, but there isn't a dishwasher or a ceramic (!) stovetop. The plates look like they're from our grandmother's time, yet a broken one costs €4.50.

The harbor view from the park is beautiful, and the cottage was clean and tidy with everything we needed. There are outdoor cafes nearby and a supermarket around the corner. It's a great base for walking or cycling, and cities like Leeuwarden, Sneek, and Harlingen are easy to get to and worth a visit. We had a wonderful holiday and will be back!
