Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus The Hague Scheveningen

Diana at reception welcomed us so warmly, and we really appreciated the effort everyone made for our wedding anniversary. We had another lovely stay, just like we do every year. The staff at the Kaurhaus were so warm and lovely. I booked a night for my husband's birthday, and they surprised him during the high tea we'd arranged. Later there was a birthday card, chocolates on the house, and a sweet note with the turndown service. Everyone was friendly and made the stay feel extra special. I'd definitely come back.

The staff were welcoming, breakfast had loads of choice and complimentary Sekt, and the bike rental was fairly priced. We also loved how easy it was to take a walk in the nature reserve, and the location is great for that. We had a good stay, though a few things kept it from feeling like five stars. The spa was small, and the pool and relaxation area share a room that gets stuffy. It was crowded both evenings. One night a group of loud young men were on speakerphone and video calls, so relaxing was impossible. They didn't seem to be hotel guests, since they weren't wearing the white robes provided. We later learned that outside visitors can use the spa through Urban Sports. I don't understand how a five-star hotel allows that. There's not enough room, and the hotel should be focused on giving its own guests a good experience. There were also maintenance and design issues in our room. The toilet was hard to flush, the balcony chairs were old and dirty, the bathroom mirror was streaky, and cleaning supplies were left in the room one evening. The curtains didn't go with the carpet or chairs either, so the interior felt unplanned.

We only stopped for one night at the last minute, and the staff were incredibly kind. They even upgraded us to a room overlooking the water. The building was lovely, our room was clean and comfortable, and being right on the beach made it a great base for getting around.
