Leonardo Hotel Den Haag Babylon

You can get from the train to reception in about two minutes, since the hotel is right by the station, and the staff are good. The room was generally well maintained, but didn't feel like a four-star hotel. The reception said there are only two types of coffee cups, which is standard, but the machine in our room couldn't pierce the cups and didn't work. The bathroom repairs looked rough and unsightly, and one wall in my room had dark or grey spots. For a hotel with this rating, I expected more than just one shower towel and one small towel per person, especially when one towel was missing during our stay. There were no cosmetic or hygiene products, and no floor mat in the bathroom, so be careful in case you slip.

The breakfast buffet was incredibly cheap for the range on offer, and the food was better than at most four- or five-star hotels. Reception service was great too. Late one night, the receptionist came up to our room with a corkscrew. I stayed for a few nights after a week in Amsterdam for NYE, wanting to see the Netherlands' seaside, and the hotel didn't disappoint. It's an excellent location, within walking distance of the train station and not too far from the sea, with a lovely interior. I'd definitely recommend it!

The hotel's photos give a much better impression than the rooms do. Reception staff are friendly, and the location is great, but the rooms weren't as described. I don't understand reviews calling them spacious. There's room for a bed and two chairs, but the place feels outdated, especially the carpet, and needs renovation. For a four-star rating, it feels more like three stars at best. The towels are old and cheap, and amenities are sparse: no free water, fridge, cotton pads, or toothpaste. You get basic shampoo, but no conditioner. It was disappointing.

The location was excellent. In the room, though, I couldn't open the curtains because nearby buildings surrounded it. Cleanliness was satisfactory, especially in the bathroom, but there was visible dust and small debris elsewhere in the room. Construction was going on right beside the hotel, and the toilet water kept turning discolored, which may point to a plumbing backup issue.
