Leonardo Royal Hotel Den Haag Promenade

The main reason for my lower rating is the pile of extra fees and inconsistent information, especially for a higher-end hotel. The parking was quite expensive, as was the dog fee. We travel often by car with our dog and stay in nice places, but haven't seen fees this high for either. The sauna and pool charge was a shock, too. It was unclear across the sites: Booking.com mentioned a sauna fee at the very bottom but not charges for massages or other services; the hotel's own site said sauna and pool were free, with only a “spa package” costing extra; the check-in link sent by email and WhatsApp didn't mention a fee at all. We've stayed in nice places with spas and never had to pay separately for the hotel's sauna and pool as guests. The soap was another surprise: only generic hand, body, and hair soap, with no lotion or other amenities you'd expect at this price. On the good side, the staff were phenomenal, helping with our reservation and looking after us throughout. Breakfast was very good, the coffee was great, public transport is right nearby, and the rooms were comfortable.

Tram 1 stops right at the hotel, so getting to the city center or Scheveningen was easy. I stayed for two nights at the Leonardo Hotel with my 10-year-old daughter, and we both loved it. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely, with a city view and a bath, and breakfast had plenty of good choices. It was nice having a swimming pool too.

The staff were very friendly, and I liked the design of the sauna and spa area. Breakfast had a really wide selection, and the hotel's overall design was very good. The wait at reception was much too long, though. More seriously, the room, especially the bathroom, wasn't properly cleaned. The location is convenient, right across from a tram stop, with easy access to both the city center and the sea. It isn't in the center, but the spot wasn't disturbing at all. Our stay was perfect, and the room was very comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised by a free upgrade. There was a double booking issue, which wasn't the hotel's fault, and the staff helped us as best and as quickly as they could. Very professional!
