Breakfast was the biggest letdown. For €26.50 per person, the food was mostly cold and very poor quality, which surprised me at a 4-star hotel. We stayed one night as a stopover after a long drive, hoping for a comfortable break, but the excellent reception team and the early check-in they allowed were the only real positives. The room had several problems. There was just one toothbrush for two guests, and the other amenities and towels seemed inconsistent. The in-room tablet for ordering food didn’t work, so we had to eat outside the hotel. We also found dirty cups, stained curtains and bedding, and a wall lamp that was barely attached. Based on this stay, I wouldn’t recommend Mövenpick Hotel The Hague.

The hotel is on a quiet street near the royal palace and embassies, with plenty of restaurants nearby. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the train station. The price felt like good value for what you get. Our room and bathroom were both very spacious, with lots of windows and natural light. The bathroom had a shower and tub, and the bed was comfortable and electronically adjustable. Staff were always friendly. There are some nice extras too, including a gym in the basement, a shoe polisher on each floor, and a €5-a-day voucher if you choose to skip housekeeping.

The shared bathroom downstairs was messy, and the hotel is far from the train station. Our half-board meals weren’t completely fresh either. The “focaccia” was hard and stale. Things got off to a bad start at reception. The guy had an attitude, didn’t seem child friendly, and made us wait quite late to check in. The room was completely different from the one I booked on booking.com. Its ventilation heater was loud and the blanket very thin. This was the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at.

The room was big and spacious, and the bathroom was nice and large. I’d booked a large room because my wife uses a wheelchair. Housekeeping was excellent when she became sick, top marks for them. The breakfast room also worked nicely as a drinking area, and the food was good, though the tea ran out. On Sunday, 29.3.26, the day the clocks changed, the food was cold. Staff told us they hadn’t realized the time had changed. What? The trouble started with the car park. We checked in through the B1 parking entrance, where there weren’t many spaces and parking an average car was extremely tight. The garage signs did warn us about this. Oswaldo, a nice man, told us parking would cost 22 euros, payable when leaving. We were horrified to be charged 97 euros to get the car out. When I mentioned the 22 euros Oswaldo had quoted, the woman replied, “That’s Oswaldo.” It left a bitter taste in my mouth. I won’t return, never. It’s a rip-off. Street parking would be much cheaper if you can find a space. Check-in was slow, with no fast option even though we’ve been priority Accord members for over 20 years. They also asked me to pay before I realized I’d already paid well in advance. The sofa in our otherwise very nice room was hard and a bit too big, and the lighting was poor. We had to do everything at the table under its nice hanging light. One last thing from someone who’s stayed in many hotels over 30 years: it was very unusual to see two male colleagues at the front desk. I didn’t see a woman until our departure, three days later. And, sorry to be picky, the desk in the middle of the room needs rethinking.

The location made it easy to walk 5 to 15 minutes to attractions, restaurants, and shops. My room was spacious, with tea and coffee, a large TV, and a fridge. The bathroom was roomy too, with a walk-in rain shower. This was my first visit, and the hotel was exceptionally clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and obliging. I’ve led travel groups for 25 years, and this is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. Movenpick will be one of my choices for my own leisure trips.
