Breakfast was available, but we didn't take Fleur up on it. She was happy to answer questions at reception. The hotel is a gorgeous, quirky old house overlooking the canal, in the quieter, greener part of town.

The setting is stunning, with a feeling that nothing has changed in 400 years, in the best way. My room was beautiful, with a chandelier and huge windows, and I slept well. I arrived late but could check in by myself and get straight to bed. Breakfast was delicious, and the person who brought it was so friendly, helpful, and kind. There was a damaged tile by the bathroom door. After I flushed the toilet during the night, water was still pouring through it in the morning.

The room had some nice features, especially the mirror, which was the only thing that felt a bit luxurious. But for €170 a night, the rest fell short. The towels were hard, and the strong Febreze scent felt more like it was covering something up than making the room feel clean. There was no elevator, and the narrow stairs were awkward with suitcases. I was looking forward to staying because the photos looked charming, but the room wasn't as cozy as it appeared. Cracks in the window let in the cold, and there was no obvious thermostat, so adjusting the heat took some figuring out. The fridge was noisy, exposed cables made things look unfinished, and the furniture and wall color around the fireplace didn't go together. Breakfast was underwhelming, and having to take it back to the room made it feel poor value. I'd rather eat in the city. At the same price, another hotel an hour away had proper heating, groom service, and even ballrooms, and was a much better experience. This place has potential, but the reality didn't match the price.

The neighborhood was fantastic, and the staff were wonderful. The woman who handled the cleaning was especially kind and attentive, which made us feel welcome and comfortable. We were also blown away by the room, with its huge windows and breathtaking view.

Everyone went out of their way to make us comfortable, and the service was outstanding. The hotel was beautifully furnished, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious, brought right to our room.
