Leonardo Hotel Utrecht City Center

The duvet was the weak point for me. It didn’t cover enough of the single bed in either direction. It was manageable since the weather was cool for the season, but a wider and longer one would’ve been more comfortable. The location is excellent, close to Utrecht Centraal and the old town. Some rooms are very quiet. The bathroom was clean, the bed and pillows comfortable, and there was satellite TV with Chromecast. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choices for different tastes.

My room was spacious, very clean, and quiet. Breakfast was excellent and varied, and the staff were discreet and polite. The hotel is conveniently placed near the central station, city center, and public transport hub. I’ll definitely return next time I’m in Utrecht.

The staff were very friendly, but the room and building were in rough shape. A bug crawled across the floor, and I killed it. The room felt quite dirty and dusty, and the infrastructure was just wack for the price. There were several things wrong: the TV turned itself on in the middle of the day and was already on when I first entered, which seemed like an electrical issue. One bathroom LED flashed when the lights came on. The shower head wouldn’t stay in place and kept falling, so the holder needs replacing. The walls were paper thin, and noisy neighbors kept me awake. The hotel is also a maze, with unclear directions and no clear way to find or use the elevator. The signs could be much better. Once you know your way around, of course, it stops being a problem. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but felt it was my moral obligation to warn future guests. I’ve attached pictures.

The location was good, the bathroom very clean, and the room adequate with comfortable beds. Staff were mostly friendly, although one person was abrupt and a little rude. They let us check in early if there was availability and offered an earlier slot if we accepted two single beds instead of the double we wanted. Some rooms need updating, and ours definitely wasn’t one of the ones shown in the photos. The shower had a curtain instead of a door, so a lot of water from the large rainfall shower ended up on the floor. The bin was tiny, which felt at odds with being encouraged to use housekeeping only when absolutely necessary. It’s expensive for a fairly basic hotel, though that seemed to be the going rate in Utrecht. One last gripe: I got an email offering a paid upgrade subject to availability. I declined, then received a generic email about applying for a different upgrade, which also wasn’t available. The decline seemed to be handled manually, so getting an upgrade offer afterward when none were available didn’t sit right with me.
