Hampshire Hotel - Voncken Valkenburg

The receptionist, the bald man with glasses, was completely disrespectful. We had an emergency and the public toilet was crowded, so I had to use the toilet. While my wife waited for me in the lobby, he asked her to pay 1 euro, and said she would have to pay another if she wanted to go as well. We felt treated worse than dogs. The lack of respect, empathy, and good manners was unacceptable. I’ve never experienced anything like it, especially in a country like the Netherlands. I hope this reaches hotel management, since they surely wouldn’t want an employee putting the hotel’s reputation at risk.

We stayed for 2 nights. The staff were friendly and the location was great, but the walls in our room were very thin. We could easily hear people talking, and I’m a light sleeper, so the noise around us meant I didn’t sleep very well.

The hotel is in a handy spot, close to all the restaurants, and the air conditioning in our room worked. Check-in and checkout were quick, and the extra charges matched what we were told. Pets are allowed for a fee and can go around the hotel except in the dining room, which seems sensible. The beds were pushed together, felt light and shifted around, so there was a chance of slipping between them. It wasn't a deal breaker, but I hope the hotel can sort that out. What really bothered us was staff opening our door without knocking to ask about the minibar. This happened 3-4 times, and nobody called out or explained why they were coming in. We felt we had no privacy. That's very unprofessional and unacceptable. Breakfast was the same each day: omelette, boiled eggs, bacon, sliced meat and cheese, bread, jam, cereal, yogurt and cut fruit. There were no fresh vegetables or salads during our stay, and the coffee was really bad. We were so disappointed with the food that we wanted to eat at the restaurant instead.

We'd booked the wrong date because of my partner's mistake, but the staff were super friendly and found us another great room. We only had to pay a supplement. The room was really clean and had a good view. Thank you!
