City Hotel Koningsvlinder

After a long trip with cancelled bookings, I reached the hotel shortly after 9 pm and was left outside until midnight. I eventually managed to book another hotel 10 km away. The number posted at the entrance couldn’t be reached, and there was no message or self-check-in guidance for when staff weren’t available. You’d expect that to be a basic thing these days. Customer service was nonexistent.

Helma and Hans were fantastic hosts. They bought Museum Cards for us and had them ready when we arrived, which helped because ordering them ahead requires a Dutch debit card. Hans also let us keep our tandem bike in the locked garage, so we could enjoy the visit without worrying about it. We stayed two nights at City Hotel Koningsvlinder in early August 2023. The hotel sits right beside the central downtown area, close to restaurants and shops, including a large Albert Hein. Our top-floor room had a big bed, a separate spacious bathroom, and a mini fridge. It was remarkably quiet for a city-center hotel, and we slept well. We skipped the optional breakfast, though it looked delicious when we saw what others had.

The owners were lovely, and the free drinks in the room, Coke, water, wine and beer, were great. They were replenished too. The room was spacious by Dutch standards, with a mini fridge and even a bathtub. The outdoor patio was a nice extra on sunny days, and the B&B is in a great location.

The center is right outside the front door, which is fantastic. The owners are warm and welcoming, and the beautiful rooms clearly took a lot of effort to put together. The cozy hall has all the comforts and makes you feel at home. Strongly recommended!
