Breakfast had all the essentials and was perfectly fine, though it got chaotic in the dining room around 09:00. I spent a night at Thon Hotel Alta in February 2026 on my way to a scooter trip across Finnmarksvidda. It was a modern, comfortable stop, and my spacious, spotless corner room, no. 501, had a striking view of Nordlyskatedralen. The bed was comfortable, the room stayed quiet all night, and I slept well. The large bathroom’s underfloor heating was especially welcome in winter. There was also a coffee machine for an early start and a minibar with a good selection. The location is handy, right in Alta town centre and close to the bus terminal. The airport is about 15 minutes away by taxi. There’s parking at the hotel, but it costs extra. Check-in and check-out were quick, and the staff were friendly and spoke Norwegian. The interiors felt like standard Thon, with a slightly business-oriented atmosphere. I’d happily stay again for a comfortable, practical night. If available, I’d ask for an upper-floor room facing Nordlyskatedralen, and I’d go to breakfast before 09:00 to miss the busiest time. Regards, Svein-Magne Tunli from Bergen, Norway

The view of the cathedral was amazing, and the breakfast was brilliant. The room was good, and the people were lovely. My only real complaint is the pillows, they’re like pancakes. As with Nordic hotels generally, more places to put your clothes would be great. I preferred eating at the local restaurants in the evening, but I’d still highly recommend this place.

The hotel’s right across from the bus station and next to a shopping mall, so the location is perfect. I had a great stay, with a comfortable room and a delicious breakfast with lots of choice. My only breakfast wish would be a cappuccino made at the bar instead of from a coffee machine, though I understand that’s a Norwegian thing. The room was too warm, but opening the window made it perfectly fine.

The room was very nice, with a fantastic view, good breakfast, and especially good housekeeping. But the ventilation issues made it far too hot to sleep. I was told the window wasn’t allowed to open more than 5-10 cm.
