This place is shut, but it still automatically accepts bookings. Edit: We booked and prepaid in advance, and Tiglkåk accepted the reservation. When we arrived at Tiglkåk on January 2nd, every door was shut, as shown in the pictures, and the two phone numbers in the emails were disconnected. No one came to the door. It was -16°C, and there was no other accommodation available to rent. People at the café next door, Sødahlhuset, told us Tiglkåk had been closed for months.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, with lots of charm. The shared kitchen and common area would feel pretty cramped if the place were fully booked.

The owner was really kind and helped us find a solution when I had trouble breathing because our room smelled of fresh paint. That part was perfect. The place felt very strange to me, though, maybe too strange, but that's just my feeling. I can see it being really good for three couples travelling together, with the kitchen and shared spaces. When we woke up, someone I assume was the host said it was impossible for the room to smell of fresh paint. Being treated like a liar first thing in the morning isn't something I enjoy. Maybe I'll come back with friends someday, because I do think it could be really good.

It's one of the few hostels in town, and it has everything you need. The place is very clean. It may cost a bit more than what the same money gets you elsewhere in Norway, probably because there isn't much choice here. Still, I can recommend it.

A great base for hiking in town, with the trailhead about 200 meters away. Everything else was good too, except there's no WiFi.
