Thon Hotel Orion

Everything was clean, and the staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold food. The hotel is ideally placed for seeing Bergen, just off the harbour and between the fortress and troll museum. We had a great three-night stay.

The location was excellent, with attractions, shops, and restaurants nearby, and it was easy to get a cab to the airport or elsewhere. Our room, though, felt a little cramped for three adults. It had two single beds and a double sofa bed, which probably took up a lot of the space. It was clean, and daily service was available if we wanted it. The ice machine on our floor was broken, so we had to go down one level for ice. One of the lifts was out of service for a day during our stay, which made waiting a bit inconvenient.

The room was uncomfortably small for a business hotel, and the heater wasn’t warm even though the window wouldn’t close. I was on a tour and stayed in room 26x, which faced a park and an office building, above the receiving deck. Out front, the waterfront was full of service ships. The nearby cathedral was closed, and the road was rocky and difficult to walk on. There’s an Extra supermarket close by, while the waterfront had better restaurant options, though they were $$$$. The TV was outdated, with no casting, and had old features for business presentations in a bedroom. On Thursday afternoon, the staff needed more training. They hadn’t ordered the breakfast box as requested, so I had to get something from grab&go.

Thon Hotel Orion has a modern feel in Bergen’s vintage part. It’s right in the city, just a stone’s throw from major restaurants, pubs, and the lively area. If you get the chance to stay here, do it for the location. I spent three nights here. The room was a decent size for two, around 19 square meters. Breakfast had several options and was good. I’d rate the location, breakfast, and reception all 5.
