The room was modern and clean, and its decor drew your eye to the views. There was no air-conditioning or fridge, though both appear in the booking photos, and reception shut at 5, which left us a bit stuck afterward. When we arrived, we were told the island had a water problem and tap water was only suitable for brushing our teeth. We bought four small bottles at reception to get through the very hot weather and were charged £18, which felt unreasonable given the water issue. Even with that, we loved this unusual stay and would happily come back. The location is incredible. Getting luggage there takes some effort: you park away from the island, take a ferry, then walk up a fairly steep incline to reception. That wasn't a real problem for us. We'd also like to see the museum and gallery while they're open.

The island is small but there's plenty to do. We found a last-minute deal for around €100 for a room with breakfast, and breakfast was perfect. You'll need to book a restaurant table ahead of time. There's also a Greek restaurant on the island with amazing pizza and much lower prices than the hotel restaurant. The food was great at both places. Free Wi-Fi, and the hotel gym is well equipped for a hotel.

The best part for me was the quiet, with no traffic and a lovely view over the Oslofjord. It's a historic spot in a great location, and the ferry ride to the island is cute.

We were there in the off season, when the island was very quiet, and walked up to the hotel to ask about getting food. They only had the staff meal available, but were happy to serve us. It was amazing, maybe the best food we ate all week in Oslo. Thanks to the staff and hotel for taking care of us even though we hadn't booked and it was off season.
