Skiers Lodge 2 - Saga Apartments

The cafe was the best part of our night here. The food was excellent, and guests at the lodge can get a discount, though we only learned that after paying. The staff were sympathetic, but the hotel manager, who wasn’t there and was called by phone, insisted it was our fault for not saying we were staying there. They wouldn’t refund the discount. With two kids and several stops on our Norway trip, a little flexibility would have helped. It wasn’t a pleasant experience, though the rest of our trip was fantastic. We stopped here in August 2024 while driving from Oslo to Bergen. The Skiers Lodge is above the cafe, and we had dinner there. Check-in is hands-off: you collect a keycard from a lockbox outside the room. We stayed one night, and the room was worn out. There was no room number on the door, the table was badly scratched, coffee was provided without filter paper, a bedroom radiator was hanging off the wall, and the TV remote was smashed. The shower was okay. The beds were bunks without side barriers, so they weren’t suitable for kids. We had to make the beds ourselves, then strip them in the morning. Not for families.

The apartment was much bigger than we needed, which was a plus. It was affordable compared with other places and conveniently located, so we were happy with our stay and would come back if we’re in the area. We found it during a road trip through Norway, looking for somewhere to stop for the night. Check-in was confusing because The Skiers Lodge has two buildings and we first went to the wrong one. That was our mistake, since we hadn’t read the instructions properly. Bed sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases weren’t included. We had to rent them from the Cafe or bring our own. We hadn’t realized that ahead of time, but luckily we had brought ours.

The Wi-Fi was really bad. Bedding costs extra to rent, and you have to make the beds yourself.

Close to nature, with a grocery shop and other essentials nearby. The place is clean.
