Comfort Hotel Kristiansand

The breakfast was decent, but I missed a better range of the usual breakfast foods. Smoothies and similar items didn’t have ingredient lists. There wasn’t really a shared place to relax either, just the reception area where breakfast is served, so there was nowhere to go when I wanted a break from the dim hotel room. The room itself was fairly clean. When we arrived at night, we weren’t sure we were in the right place and asked the young man at reception whether we could check in there. He stared at us and answered curtly. He came across as rude and unwelcoming, which gave us a very poor first impression and changed how we felt about the hotel. The shower drained slowly, and when we used the larger shower head, water crept too close to the door. The bed and pillow weren’t very comfortable either, and we left with minor muscle aches in our backs. The woman helping us at checkout that morning was kind and welcoming, as was a different young man the previous night. Apart from those staff interactions and the other issues, it’s a decent hotel overall.

I’m torn between giving this place three or four stars. The dining hall was nicely decorated, and I really enjoyed breakfast. There’s also a large parking lot, while the central location puts you near both bus and train stations. My room was small but clean, and it was the first hotel I’ve stayed at with a bathtub. The hallways were rather dull, though, and you could see through the windows into other guests’ rooms, as the photos show.

For my three-day stay, I had everything I needed. The staff were very nice and breakfast was good. It’s also close to the ferry, the church, and lots of restaurants.

For a stop in Kristiansand, this hotel works very well. It’s central, the rooms are small but clean, the service is friendly, and breakfast is excellent. The parking at Vestre Torv is extremely expensive and feels like a rip-off. It connects straight to the hotel via the fourth floor of the same building, but it isn’t run by the hotel. The rates aren’t displayed, including in the Easypark app, and the system still bills you through fully automated license plate recognition. That parking experience took away from an otherwise excellent hotel stay.
