Fagernes Camping

There were plenty of free places in late August. It's a large four-star campsite, with a nice beach and really high-quality service facilities. You can also walk to the charming town from there.

The facilities were spot on, and there was lots of lakeside waterfront for campers to use. The town centre is just a short walk away. We stayed two nights at what must be one of Norway's best campsites. I'd have given it 4.5 stars for the lack of recycling, but it sounds like that's coming.

We only planned a day here, which was a mistake. There's kayaking and places to explore, plus a sauna you can rent right beside the river. The campground is well organized, and laundry costs only 50kr, with a dryer available too. At thon Hotel near the airport, they charge that much for one pair of underwear! This place deserves at least three days, maybe a week. I planned badly, but if I visit Norway again, I'll definitely spend longer here ^^

The beach is good for swimming, and the ladies at reception were very nice. The sanitary facilities were clean too. That's where the positives end for me. I fished for hours and didn't get a single bite, and neither did anyone else. Maybe the noise explains it. This huge site has hundreds of caravan pitches but not even 10 in total (!) for tents. In the evening it feels packed, and the tents are so close you can hear people breathing. There are screaming children carrying on almost until midnight, motorboats going around until then, motorcycles on the opposite bank that sound right beside you, car alarms, and more. Bring earplugs. If you want peace and quiet, this is the wrong place. A one-person tent costs 480 NOK, which is especially steep. One star for reception, another for the beach.
