The lakes look amazing from the hotel, especially in the evening. We stopped for one night while driving back to Oslo from Bergen, and the owners were warm and helpful. I’d happily stay again if we’re nearby.

Bad weather kept us here for two nights, and it turned out to be a lovely place. The owners were really nice, and both the food and service were good. The building is a little old, but everything worked fine. Keep it up!

The kids had plenty to do here, especially playing ping pong and using the skate ramp, and there are lots of gaming options. It’s also handy for ski lifts by bus or car, with cross-country trails nearby. We found it good value for a budget holiday, with clean premises and comfortable beds in standard rooms, some with bathrooms and some without. The staff, mostly Danes, were fantastic and made the atmosphere a pleasure to be part of. Breakfast had lots of choices, and you could make your own packed lunch for later. They serve both butter and Bremykt, which was a relief instead of cheap margarine. Dinner changed each day and was very good, though it would’ve been nice to have two choices sometimes. One evening it was only lamb sausages and mashed potatoes, which didn’t suit kids or some adults. Beer, red wine and white wine were available at a low price, 50 kr a glass. My one real complaint was that the hot water had run out by 17:15, when the hotel was full and hosting a large Red Cross group. Still, you get a lot for your money, and I’d recommend the place.

We came in summer, so there wasn’t any snow, though I imagine snowsports are popular here. The hotel has a skatepark attached, so bring your helmet and board. The views are fantastic, the rates were reasonable, and the rooms were comfortable, if quite basic.

Easy parking, and Rauland ski resort is about a five-minute drive away. The rooms were clean, the reception staff were kind, and the food was good.
