Kronen Gaard Hotel

We stayed at Kronen Gaard Hotel for about a week and had two rooms. One was much crappier than the other and lacked space, so we had to switch. Room 232 was decently sized and comfortable, with a clean, fresh bathroom. But its window latch was broken, the desk surface was old, dirty and stained, and the card-based electricity system was unreliable. The power would work without the card and then switch off randomly. The carpet was kind of nasty. We got fresh towels but no new soap or shampoo, and they just remade the bed with the old sheets. It faced the road, which was noisy, especially at night. Room 216 was a lot worse. The small, oddly shaped room was uncomfortable, and its carpet was the color of dog pee. Since it was a dog-friendly room, that was a bit concerning, and it didn’t feel fresh. It had only a stand-up shower, unlike the bathtub in the other rooms we saw. Getting there meant going up a small, narrow staircase, and that part of the hotel seemed neglected. When we arrived with our service dog, an employee scolded us in Norwegian for not telling the hotel about the dog, even though we’d mentioned it when booking. After her whole introduction, she asked if we understood Norwegian, then scolded us again in English. We all found this short, black-haired woman rude and stressed. She hurried around despite not really having any guests and quickly gave us the rooms, one of which was clearly better than the other. Most of the other staff we met were pleasant. A young man was helpful and accommodating, complimented our dog, and was both professional and nice. The kitchen staff wouldn’t answer even when we thanked them for breakfast. A groundskeeper watering the plants while we ate breakfast only glared at us. The location is good, close to Sravanger and closer to Sandnes, though you do need a car. Dalsnuten is nearby, with 7 mountain peaks to hike up. Next door, a privately owned house has pigs and goats you can walk by on public roads. The restaurant food tasted good, with fresh vegetables and tender meat, though it was very pricey. The fish was a little overdone but still good. Portion sizes left something to be desired, and the experience was inconsistent. One day we got bread and an øl menu when we asked, and another day we didn’t. All in all, my stay was pleasant, but the price was quite steep for such a run-down hotel with paint on the windows.
