Thon Hotel Sortland

Breakfast had lots of choice, and the restaurant food was excellent too. The hotel was central and easy to find. Our room was quiet, comfortable, clean, and tidy, with a Nespresso machine and a large shower. Staff were friendly, and the bar area had loads of character.

The newer wing has much larger, nicer rooms, so ask for one there. The old building is ugly, with tiny rooms and a bathroom of about 1.5m2. There wasn't even enough space to open two suitcases. Breakfast ran out quickly and wasn't replenished in time. After two weeks in Norway, this was probably the worst hotel I stayed in. The two kinds of rooms seem to be offered at the same price, which feels like a double standard. I won't stay here again.

Dinner was very tasty, and I enjoyed breakfast too, with a good choice of vegetables and desserts, though the fish had bones in it. My room experience was a letdown. The first room, in the unrenovated section, had lots of flying insects, houseflies I think. I switched rooms with help from my tour guide. The second was a little better, but it was still in the old section and hadn't been cleaned properly, including the toilet. I'd suggest avoiding the third floor and requesting a room in the renovated part. I also witnessed a receptionist ask about our driver's nationality when there was a problem with his room. My tour guide, who was Polish, seemed as confused by the question as I was. After she answered, the receptionist said there were no rooms available. Would there have been one if he were French? I was shocked by the behavior, especially these days. This should be brought directly to senior management at Thon hotels.

The bed was much too soft, and the staff weren't very attentive that day, so there was no honey or chocolate spread at breakfast. Still, breakfast was good otherwise, and I had a good stay in a nice room with a modern bathroom. The hotel is very old, but it was modernized in 2017 and is in very good condition.
