Scandic Hell

The room was excellent, with a big TV and a clean, well-kept bathroom. The bed was two single beds pushed together, which wasn't ideal but was okay. Check-in was quick and the staff were friendly, though having to register my card after paying online felt odd until they explained it was for possible extra charges. The spacious, attractive lobby was very busy, apparently because one or more conferences were going on. Breakfast had a good range and tasted good, but the dining area was crowded too. The gym and pool had great views and were well equipped, though the treadmill was a bit worn but usable. Free parking outside for guests was a real plus. A good stay with lots of amenities despite the crowds.

Breakfast was the highlight for me. There was an excellent range of hot and cold dishes, and even with the busy dining room, I found a table and could eat at a relaxed pace. I paid around NOK 1900 for one night, which felt like fair value for a short layover or pre-flight stay. Scandic Hell is practical as an airport and conference hotel, but it could use more warmth and polish. It's an easy 10-minute walk to the terminal, and the parking right outside made arriving and leaving simple. My family room, no. 530, was clean, tidy, a decent size, and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom felt chilly despite the underfloor heating, and the shower pressure was disappointingly weak. My inward-facing room picked up noise from the restaurant and bar until about 1 a.m., which affected my sleep. At check-in, the service was polite but not very engaged, and after a long travel day I missed the little touches that make you feel welcome. Better sound insulation and a warmer reception would help. I'd stay here before an early flight again, and recommend Scandic Hell if convenience and a very good breakfast matter more to you than character or complete quiet. If you go, ask for an upper-floor room facing the fjord to reduce indoor noise and get a better view. The smash burgers were excellent, and I had a really pleasant visit. Staff were friendly and attentive too. Highly recommend.

Maybe the best Scandic I've stayed in. It's right by the airport and railway, which is what it is, but I barely noticed. The rooms were nice, the evening buffet was extraordinary, and breakfast had plenty to choose from. I can wholeheartedly recommend the place.
