The setting around the lighthouse is beautiful, and I keep coming back. I’ve stayed here many times since my first visit in 2010, and it’s a lovely spot for some peace, inspiration, and relaxation. The sunsets are amazing every time, even in winter. It takes about 20-25 minutes to walk to the ferry and shop, though driving up is easy. I’ve stayed in all three apartments in the lighthouse area. Fyrmesterboligen and Fyrvokterboligen have similar rooms, but Fyrvokterboligen has more room, a bigger living room, and more beds. The buildings are a little worn, but that’s what I’d expect from an old, authentic house on Norway’s coast. The service is excellent, and the host may even pick you up from the ferry if he has time. Absolutely worth a visit!

The view is hard to complain about. We had a really nice trip to Utsira and its lighthouse, and the old lighthouse too. It’s out in the Atlantic Ocean, about a 1h 10m ferry ride from Haugesund. 🙂

I was very satisfied with the apartment. There’s plenty of space, and the place has a really nice old retro style. The views in every direction are great, and birdwatching sites are right nearby, which is great for those of us interested in birds 😊

Once you’ve made the trip to Utsira, it’s nice to visit the place. There isn’t much information for tourists beyond a few posters, though. Finding details about it, either online or locally at the site, seems to come down to luck. The roads up to the facility are very narrow, like the roads around Utsira generally, but driving all the way there is no problem. There are good parking options.

It’s a quiet place with lovely walks around the island. The museum has fantastic street art on buildings, silos, and houses. There’s one at the Jokerbutikken. The ferry is free.
