Scandic Stiklestad

We came with a group tour, but the staff made us feel like a source of money instead of people. Our room wasn't cleaned and the towels weren't changed, even after I asked directly. There was a strange black mold spot on the mirror, too. The hotel was hard to find, and the elevator was tucked away. Wi-Fi was so bad that my video call dropped three times, and I nearly lost my job. Staff seemed unwilling to help. Travelers, beware.

The hotel is well placed near the culture center and historic area. My accessible room had plenty of space, including in the bathroom, and the shower worked well with my wheelchair and shower chair. Grip bars helped when transferring. Getting in and out of the room by myself was difficult, though, and the beds were only so-so. The restaurant was very busy during my stay. My meal was delayed, and the drink I ordered arrived after I'd finished eating. The staff were friendly but obviously overwhelmed, and I felt stressed, so I headed back to my room soon after. Flies were also buzzing around and landing on the food. I can understand that given the location, but it wasn't appetizing.

We were driving south from northern Norway after hours on the road with exhausted children, so we skipped the museum attached to the hotel and went looking around the area for somewhere good to eat. The museum offers a chance to learn local history, and the hotel itself sits on historic ground. I was too tired to worry much about the poor service at reception. Maybe the receptionist was having a really bad day. 😅

The restaurant was a good surprise: the main dish, dessert, and drinks were all high quality, and the prices felt fair. The room rate was reasonable too. My room had enough space, a little couch and table, a roomy bathroom, and a comfortable bed. Check-in was easy, although the room was at the far end of this very broad, low-rise hotel, over 200 meters from the entrance. It was fine for the walk. The hotel was modern and clean, and a decent stop if you're nearby.
