Fleischer's Motel

The owner may be around during your stay, and if you get to meet her, you'll see how proud she is of the hotel and her family. Fleischer’s is run by the same family across generations, now the fourth, and she still walks among the tables, checks how guests are enjoying their holiday and sometimes tells the hotel's history. Our group felt lucky to meet her. She's a special person, and her pride was inspiring. The hotel is just a short walk from the station, beside the Oslo–Bergen train line, but we weren't disturbed by train noise. It's also easy to walk into the town center. There are lovely lake views, a good breakfast and dinner, and a nice bar. If you're in the Voss area, this family-run place is well worth a visit.

A comfortable stay, with an easy distance to the ski resort and gondolas. The town and nearby shops aren't far either. The hotel has a quaint, charming feel, though some features are dated. The rooms and breakfast were perfectly acceptable. My hairdryer worked for a few seconds, then cut out.

The Family Room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. I liked the classic look inside and out, and the bar was cozy. Breakfast was an okay buffet. There were a few drawbacks in the room: the wiring looked messy, with cables tied to a loose one that didn't seem to connect to anything, perhaps left from old appliances or connections. The shower has a small glass partition and a curtain, so water gets across the bathroom floor. TV options were limited, mostly NRK, and the pillows were too soft.

Breakfast was cold, and the pizza buffet was really poor: no salad or extras, and only five pizzas for the whole restaurant, which ran out. We also had no hot water that day. The hotel blamed the low number of guests, but hot water should be available regardless. They seemed to have known about the issue for years and chosen not to fix it. There was no apology or compensation. It would have been a better stay without all that.
