Tharu Mahal

We liked the property, right in the center of town, with plenty of parking and clean surroundings. The beds were comfortable, the toilets were clean, and the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. There’s warm AC, a kettle and jug in the room, and you can have a campfire. The staff were sweet, the food was delicious, and the hotel arranged our safari. We enjoyed spending a couple of days here. One issue was that the bathroom only had cold water, so we had to heat water in the kettle for showering. The TV subscription had also run out, so if you like watching TV, bring an HDMI cable.

The dirty, stained, poorly kept sheets and linens made it very uncomfortable to sleep. Even worse, there was a used condom on the toilet window. That was disgusting and unacceptable. The room hygiene was extremely disappointing and showed a serious lack of proper housekeeping. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone who expects even basic cleanliness.

There are plenty of vehicle options for the trip, at fairly low rates. The resort is about 5-6 km from Sauraha chowk in Tandi, and sits peacefully near Chara chowk. You can walk to the riverbank to see the evening activity in Sauraha. The garden and cottage-style rooms are lovely, and there are decent amenities and a range of food, including authentic Tharu dishes. Most of the staff are from the Tharu community, whom I found honest and genuine. The hotel room interiors could use improvement, though. You can book jungle or jeep safaris and other activities through the hotel. It’s a good-value resort for a visit with friends or family.

Whenever I visit Sauraha, I always stay at this hotel. The atmosphere is friendly and the hospitality is good. Try their Chicken Khana with extra Ghongi.
