Novel Centre Point Hotel

I was especially surprised by how little public transport there is in Famagusta. If you want to visit somewhere, it seems the answer is a taxi. I wanted to see Salamis and a couple of beaches, but from the hotel it would have meant a 50-minute walk each way. That was a real drawback for me, since I prefer cheaper ways to get around, in an otherwise interesting place I was visiting for the first time. I stayed at the end of Sept/early Oct 25. There were lots of elderly guests and no families with kids. Breakfast was good, but the self-catering room had no working connection for the microwave or hob. I found a kettle on another floor's landing and sneaked it in so I could make a hot drink. The shower cubicle smelled because the water wasn't draining and was left stagnant. The cleaners tried to help, but couldn't fix it. Reception staff were friendly, though not everyone spoke clear English. The glossy photos online also felt a bit like a lie, sadly. They seem to be CGI: there was no bedspread, no flowers in the rooms, and no sunset views.

The room felt a little tired, but it was clean, comfortable, and quiet. We were right in a very central spot, with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. The food was excellent, and drinks were reasonable, possibly because of the bars right around the hotel.

The staff were amazing, and the food was pretty good. We had a nice weekend, and the rooms were spacious and clean. I marked the rooms down to 3 because the TV was old and not smart, and the AC never made the temperature feel comfortable. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't comfortably warm either.

Excellent breakfast. The place felt boring and impersonal. It's near shopping, but still a long way from the beach and the center.
