I wish I'd booked a longer stay. This hotel/motel has a great location, a warm welcome, and everything needed for a short visit. From the top-floor room, we had a lovely view over Frenchman's bay and glorious sunsets.

Criterion made a warm, cosy base for exploring Akaroa, right in the middle of town with other amenities close by. Crater Cafe’s lovely coffee is next door, and Ma Maison is just a short walk away for dinner, sunset views and equally sublime food. We were also pleasantly surprised by the nice shower and pantry amenities.

Flooding kept us in Akaroa for an extra day, and the internet outage across town meant the local economy was cash only. The team were fantastic through it all and gave us so much help and support. The spot itself has beautiful bay views too. Many thanks.

The room was spacious, with a huge bed, a comfy two-seater and a table with chairs. It was beautifully clean, and the exterior was tidy. My room wasn't a sea-view room, but I could still see the water from the balcony. The location was 10/10, with on-site parking and everything within walking distance. They were friendly and accommodating about my late check-in, and the heat pump was already on when I arrived, so the room was lovely and warm.

The hostess at the office was very friendly, and they provided towels and milk. The rooms were spotless and the beds comfortable. I especially liked stepping onto the heated bathroom tiles after a shower. A very good experience, and I'd recommend it.
