The breakfast was superb. There was cereal, yoghurt, milk, orange juice, homemade preserves, hot fresh croissants, tea and coffee, plus a cooked meal of local bacon, blythcliffes eggs, sage and cream mushroom, and roasted tomato. We ate so much we went back to our room for a nap. We’d booked for one night and were pleasantly surprised that our hosts put us in the stables. The huge room opened onto a courtyard and had a giant bed, space for a sofa, chairs and dining table, a full kitchen, and a bathroom with a gorgeous bath. It’s about a five-minute walk down to the lovely township, so very handy. Both hosts were wonderful. I’m really sorry I didn’t take any pictures. Words don’t do the place justice. It was all pretty bloody wonderful. Thanks.

We’d arranged an early check-in because of a wedding, but nobody was there. No one answered the phone or replied to my email. Looks like we’re driving back to Christchurch tonight.

It’s a gorgeous place with an amazing interior, and staying there felt like being in a museum. It’s one of the oldest European houses in New Zealand, with a lovely garden and little river that are great for an afternoon walk. Lesley and John were really friendly and helpful. As a bonus, we found out they’d worked with the Lord of the Ring teem, and you can find The sword of the Witch-king of Angmar there. My friends and I stayed for one night and absolutely recommend it to couples wanting a romantic holiday, or anyone who likes to relax. We’d definitely stay again if we get the chance to visit Akaroa.

The hosts are lovely, the bed was super comfy, and the homemade croissants were to die for. It’s a historic place with a great location, an easy walk to town and everything Akaroa has to offer. I’d stay again.

Breakfast is home-cooked, absolutely incredible, and there are plenty of options. Lesley and John are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, with some amazing stories. They’ve brought this charming historic 1857 house’s interior and furnishings back to a style that suits the period. I’d absolutely stay again.
