The kitchenette was missing most of the basics, with hardly any cutlery, no tea towels, dish soap, dishbrush, or proper dish tray, and a dishwasher that didn’t work. Dust had built up in the vents, and the phone was out of order, so there wasn’t even a way to call management with a complaint. Our two-bedroom suite had tiny, uncomfortable rooms, oversized wooden bed frames, and beds that weren’t king size despite being sold as such. One room had no rail for hanging clothes. Even the luggage trolley was so broken it was hard to push. The rooms felt worn and unwelcoming from the start. Staff seemed more focused on taking payment before we’d seen the room. VR Auckland isn’t worth the price, and I won’t book there again. I’d spend a little more for a proper hotel experience.

We only stayed one night, but were happy with it. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well organized, and the receptionists on the morning and afternoon shifts were friendly and accommodating. I was dropping off a parcel for a customer around 3:00 PM on 28/05/2026. They’d specifically told me to leave it with reception and given me a 4-digit code. There were two women at the desk, one busy and one available. When I explained the instructions, the available receptionist told me sharply to leave it anywhere and go. She got even ruder when I tried to clarify, came out from behind the desk, and said she didn’t care whether I left it or took it back. Reception staff represent a business and should be helpful and polite. This was a disappointing lack of basic customer care. I hope management looks into it and provides proper service training.

Housekeeping was disappointing too. We booked for four, but were given only two towels. After asking for service before heading out, we came back to a dirty floor, unmade beds, and no coffee refill. Only two towels had been replaced. We had to ask in person for dishwashing liquid each time, and reception didn’t seem to care. We’d booked a Deluxe Two-Bedroom room a year ahead, but got a dark ground-floor room boxed in by walls, with no view and windows that wouldn’t open properly. It felt nothing like a deluxe room. Dust covered the place, the toilet had stubborn stains, wardrobe rails were broken, and the freezer didn’t work, so our frozen food and ice cream went to waste. There was no knife or chopping board, and the electric stove barely heated enough to cook instant noodles. This was basic maintenance that should have been handled. The place didn’t meet a reasonable hotel standard. For a comfortable stay, avoid it. I’ll never return or recommend it.
