I had a really pleasant stay at Choice Backpackers in Auckland. The kitchen was great, with lots of cooking facilities and fridge space, and the bathrooms were clean. My private room on the 8th floor was basic but comfortable, with a good bed, desk, and lamp, everything I needed to sleep well. Staff across reception and housekeeping were consistently friendly and helpful. The hostel felt relaxed and quiet. There was some street noise on weekends and sound came through the walls, but earplugs handled it. The building stayed at a comfortable temperature, which helped me sleep. Good value, friendly people, and a nice place to spend time in Auckland.

It was a first time for me, and I wasn’t sure what to do, but a staff member was kind and helpful when I had questions. They explained the house rules and how to get to and from reception clearly. The place was nicely clean, and the location is quite good.

The view from my room was pretty nice, and Sam was good. The kitchen was clean and fairly big. For the price, you get what you pay for, so it’s a decent way to save a couple bucks. I’d only recommend it if you’re in a pinch and expect to be out most of the day. I can manage one night, but I didn’t enjoy it. I’m not really a rough-it kind of girl. At least the linens and bathroom were clean. The top floors were really cold, around 15-16°C, so wear layers to bed. The walls are thin too. I could hear people yelling in the street from the 9th floor, not to mention the noise next door.

The place has a vibe I like, and the staff have been amazing. We never had an issue with anyone. My partner and I especially liked Tiphanie, who’s a sweet soul and sorted anything we needed. If the room was too hot, she adjusted the air con; if it was too cold, she’d fix that too. We spent a bit of time here, and she remembered us and greeted us warmly every time. Plus, I love her French accent. It’s a backpacker in the CBD, so the walls are thin, but that’s what you’d expect. There are room options for different budgets, and the shared kitchen, toilets, and washers and dryers are well equipped. They could be bigger, but cooking never caused us a problem. It’s not a hotel, and some of the comments are hilarious. Floors 8-10 have private rooms, and the four-bed room has its own toilet and shower. I love that room. Friendly people, and an awesome place to stay.

The rooms weren’t like the lovely photos online, but they were clean and the beds were comfortable enough for our tired group. The air conditioning was excellent and kept the room ventilated and cosy. Booking went smoothly. Eric went the extra mile for our fairly large group, changing our preferences several times without any fuss. Reception staff were efficient and polite, even with a couple of us worn out from the road.
