City Garden Lodge Backpackers

We had enough room to spread out and regroup during our weeklong stay. The double room was clean, with a comfortable bed, a table, and comfy chairs. I also liked seeing the Sky Tower from our window. It's a nice old historic house, though it could use some repairs. For a few days, it was a good place to stay at a very reasonable price.

Room 11 was roomy, with a super comfy bed and pillows, and the sheets felt clean and silky soft. I was disappointed that there wasn't a window, just double doors opening onto an enclosed balcony shared with three or four other rooms, so I didn't feel safe leaving them open. The neighborhood was quiet, and the place was usually quiet too, though you can't know who else will be staying at the hostel. We had noisy neighbors. People need to remember others are sleeping or dealing with jet lag! Everything else was great, with laundry, a nice outdoor area, and town about a 20 minute walk away. I'd stay again :)

The price is low, and getting downtown is easy, about 15 minutes by bus. It's an old place, and some windows wouldn't close, while the rooms weren't especially nice looking. That didn't bother me much. The office closing half an hour early did. The shower stalls were dusty outside, with several empty shampoo bottles left on top, and a whole floor had to share just two toilets. It will do if you're not too picky.

The staff were great, helpful, and very accommodating, and the location is really convenient, with grocery shops, restaurants, and even a French market down the road. This heritage house has a country style and history, with very nice lounge and dining areas. The rest of it needs updating. There was also too much old stuff outside by the laundry, and that area could use a clean up.
