Copthorne Hotel Auckland City

The bed was comfortable and the view was nice. The room itself was okay, though the furniture looked a bit shabby. Our flight was delayed, so I emailed the hotel. We arrived eight hours later than planned, and they seemed surprised to see us. Our reservation was in the “no show” pile, and it took quite a while before they found us a room.

We’ve stayed twice and found the rooms comfortable, clean and quiet. The harbour view rooms are great value at around $140 when booked direct. Dinner was incredible, and the full buffet breakfast was very good for $28. The bar and restaurant team were outstanding, well done to them. It’s a very central spot, about a 10-15 minute walk from the viaduct. Parking was $30, which is a bit annoying, though a nearby hotel wanted $60 for one night. Auckland parking prices are a rip. Excellent value overall.

The beds were good, the aircon was great, and we slept well. We didn’t hear the construction noise down the hill on Beach Road. It’s handy for town, with Commercial Bay shops and places to eat a quick walk away. The hotel’s kitchen is good too, and the prices are regular. Buffet breakfast is great at $28, or you can get eggs Benedict for $17. The staff were efficient, understanding and helpful. The rooms and general decor could probably use an upgrade, but it’s comfortable.

I had the best sleep I’ve had in ages. It’s an older-style hotel, lovely and cosy, and the bed was so comfortable. The room stayed at a comfortable temperature, with a built-in heater available if needed. The staff were friendly, easy to approach and accommodating. I’d absolutely come back.
