Grand Central Serviced Apartments

The train line runs right by, so trains went past regularly, but they weren’t too loud and it was fine. There were children running and shouting along the hallway at all hours, though. The staff were fantastic, friendly and very helpful, and they let us store our luggage until check-in time. Great stay for a great price, and we’d come again.

Reception was barely covered, and the doors to the accommodation were hard to open. The floor smelled of urine. On the second floor there was a door left open 24/7, leading past what used to be old toilets to a view of mechanical equipment. In my room, the carpet was stained, the wardrobe door was broken and the cutlery was under the sink. There was mould in the shower, and the window wouldn’t open. The bathroom step was very high and a safety hazard. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

There really is a curry smell in the corridors, as some reviews mentioned. Apart from that, it’s a great location, only a short walk to the town centre. The old station building is amazing, and it’s good value accommodation, especially for backpackers.

The building is beautiful and has a lot of potential, but they aren’t making the most of it. The rooms are old-fashioned and not really set up for a luxurious stay, and cleanliness doesn’t seem to be monitored closely. It’s an option if you need budget-friendly accommodation, but not if quality is what you want.
