Heritage Apartment

We had a good price and felt the stay was good value for money. Our heritage family room was spacious, well maintained, and on the 7th floor, with a good view, reliable internet and a good TV setup. The rooms are older, but reception was pleasant and helpful, and despite the hotel's size it was very quiet. The location works well for most central Auckland activities. We made good use of the rooftop pool with our young kids and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We came back for two more short stays, and our experience with the hotel as a young family has been great. We plan to return for another short stay next month. It's not a 5* property with room service or super modern decor, but it suited us well.

We were on the street side and heard some traffic overnight, but otherwise found it good value as a family-friendly option. The rooftop pool was a hit, and there was plenty of room for families. Our room was large, spacious and clean, with the character of high ceilings even though the hotel is a little dated. Service was fantastic, and the reception staff were great.

Parking was my biggest concern. Guests arriving by car have to use valet, which I found expensive, and the waits could be long. Once, a mistake left me waiting around 50 minutes for my car. Two pairs of hiking shoes also went missing from my trunk while the car was parked. I only noticed after we'd checked out. The staff were polite and helpful when I contacted them, and checked whether the shoes had been left in the room, but they hadn't. I can't prove what happened and don't want to make a direct accusation, though the shoes must have disappeared while the car was parked. I stayed four nights with my girlfriend before New Year. The room was okay, if a bit dated, and the staff were friendly and supportive throughout. The location is great, though at first it can be confusing because the hotel is spread across several buildings.

The location was the one real plus. Our so-called upgrade looked out over an internal courtyard above a noisy independent Indian restaurant. The rooms felt very worn and badly in need of updating, with shabby carpets and furniture that didn’t suit the space. There weren’t any usable power sockets or USB charging points, and no restaurant was open for breakfast. Check-in staff were good, but the person at checkout seemed uninterested. I wouldn’t recommend it, it wasn’t even mediocre.
