Hobson Lodge - Hostel

The atmosphere was friendly, with plenty of cool people to meet and spots where you could have time to yourself. It was quiet, everyone treated each other respectfully, and the place was very clean. Bathrooms were cleaned and rooms vacuumed every day, with the rubbish emptied as well. You can use the computers for free, and there are coin-operated washers and dryers. For the price, location, and cleanliness, this is probably one of the best hostels in central Auckland.

It’s easy to meet people here, and the hostel has a very social feel. The staff are consistently helpful and friendly, and the place seems well organised. Rooms are decent, with good storage, lockers, and curtains on the bunks. The kitchens and bathrooms are spacious, although the bathrooms are mixed sex. The area isn’t the best, but other central hostels are nearby, so it’s much the same as staying elsewhere in the centre.

I had a great time here, and the people were really nice. The beds were comfortable, with a personal locker, a curtain, and power outlets right beside each one. The kitchen is huge, and everyone gets a labelled food shelf. Probably one of the best organised hostels I’ve stayed at in New Zealand.

Guests say the staff are helpful and the hostel feels welcoming, particularly for solo travellers hoping to meet people. For a budget hostel-style stay, many find the price reasonable for what’s provided and where it is. The lodge is right in Auckland’s CBD, so you can walk to plenty of attractions and public transport.
