Quest on Hobson

The room was spacious and check-in was quick, and it’s reasonably close to the cbd. But the facilities felt more like 2.5 or 3 stars than the advertised 4. The room was dated, the shower body wash dispenser was broken, and the sink lever was partly broken too. The aircon was so loud I had to switch it off overnight. The area nearby felt rough, with some “questionable” characters camping downstairs, and there weren’t many cafes close by apart from those next to the casino. I was there for one business night to visit a nearby client. The hotel could use a revamp, and I wouldn’t recommend staying more than one night.

The room was terrible and the service didn’t help. We booked a one-bedroom for “3 pax” and assumed there’d be a couch bed or fold-out, but there wasn’t, so two men had to share one bed. Reception offered to book us another room themselves, which would have meant losing the full $200 for the average room we already had, or told us to go back to the booking company and wait. The aircon was useless, with fans everywhere, the shower body wash was empty, and the TV had no channels programmed. I’m a regular business customer, but I won’t be back.

The apartment had everything you need when you’re away from home. It’s close to sky city and all the buses, with a supermarket and convenience stores downstairs. The street can get noisy, with people yelling and road works overnight, but that has nothing to do with Quest.

The best things were the location, just a 2-5 minute walk or ride to SkyCity, and the comfortable mattress, pillows, and clean, well-pressed sheets. The apartment was spacious, but the rest of the stay was very disappointing. The complex felt neglected from arrival, with an untidy reception area and homeless people loitering out front. Carpets and rugs were dirty and worn, lounge furniture had rough repairs to ripped areas, and the air-conditioning barely cooled the rooms. The replacement fans were noisy and ineffective. Housekeeping was poor too. The bed looked carelessly made, coffee and milk weren’t topped up, and only a few rolled-up towels were replaced. Curtains didn’t cover the windows properly. The outside terrace was a disgrace, with visible mould, bird droppings, and items that looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. It needs a thorough hose down, and you won’t want to open the blinds. The apartment felt dirty and badly maintained, and the complex needs serious refurbishment and better management. We won’t return.
